The amazing almanac!

National Geographic Kids Almanac 2011
located in the juvenile non-fiction area 031.02 NAT 2011

"Did you know that an avalanche can travel more than 100 miles an hour, or that a flea can jump a hundread times its body length? The National Geographic Kids Almanac 2011 is packed with weird-but-true facts and fascinating information about the world and everything in it. Have fun and get even smarter at the same time!"

Where to begin the awesomeness of this book? This book is beautifully designed from the glossy photos to the fun illustrations. The information is a whole other story. This book isn't necsacarrily a book you read straight through. For me it was more flipping and reading pieces her and there. That's what is so great about this book, it's a jumping off point. Say your flipping around and read about if frogs really eat their own skin. You may then decide to read another book about frogs and create a whole new interest for yourself. (Yes, it's called molting, most frogs twist and wriggle out of their skin by chowing down on the used skin.)

The book is divided into sections, each section contains about a page, or paragraph about information. Information on animals, geography, history, etc. The book mentions in between the texts of great websites to check out to find out more. The websites are usually government ones or National Geographic so they are pretty reliable information sources.

The best part of this book for me was the unique factor. The book contains a lot of information. Some sections that I found fun were how to do research, write a formal letter, interviews with explorers, how to survive guides, crafts, puzzles, Instant message lingo, and new technology.

A definite check out!
